Milly’s boutique has opened for the second summer in a row in the East Hamptons, offering the Milly ready-to-wear, Cabana and Minis collection. On top of that the store has a selection of gifts available (such as books and small accessories), every item in the store has been carefully selected by Michelle Smith herself.
New this summer are the dessert jars by Dani, available for the youngest family members (see the WWD article on jars by Dani). Catch a free ride to and from the store with the Milly shuttle service, in collaboration with Hampton Free Ride. For more information on the Milly East Hamptons store, click here.
To celebrate the second summer season of the Milly store, Michelle threw a poolside party at the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. Co-hosts for the night were The Daily Summer and Chelsea Leyland, who was in charge of the music for the night. For more images of the event, click here.
2004 was a special year for the Belgian designer Dries van Noten, it was the year he designed his 50th women’s collection and launched a book commemorating his career. Barneys, being one of the first stores in New York City to carry his line, decided to throw a party in honor of Mr. van Noten and launch his book in the United States. The event took place at Barneys on November 4th, working closely with Julie Gilhart and Simon Doonan, and produced by Dizon Inc.
As you entered the 4th floor of Barney’s, the room was covered in projections from past runway shows, layering over each other, wrapping the architecture and the racks of clothing. The center piece of the room consisted of a massive waterfall of images, pages from the book hung on strips of grosgrain ribbons, creating what now looks remarkably like a tumblr feed of images of his shows throughout the years. The strips, hung at different lengths, spanned a long narrow table displaying the books. Dries van Noten 01-50: A Golden Anniversary included photos of shows and invitations of every show since 1991, artfully chronicling his singular vision.

THAKOON X TASAKI: PUNK ROCK PEARLS
Suddenly pearls seem to be everywhere in fashion (fashionista), but not many people know that Thakoon has been designing incredible pearl jewelry with Tasaki since 2009 when he was appointed creative director. Thakoon’s pearls are somehow punk rock yet incredibly elegant at the same time. So much so that girls who would never consider a string of pearls are wearing his unique pieces.
His latest collection “Pretty in Pearls”, is inspired by Thakoon’s dog Stevie, a Yorkshire Terrier and Chihuahua mix.

THAKOON X LAURIE SIMMONS: ROSELAND
Thakoon Collaborated with Laurie Simmons to create a unique print for his Spring 2009 collection. The project had been in development for a few years before it actually hit the runway. Back in 2006 Thakoon Panichgul was at an auction and fell in love with Laurie Simmons and her work. Following this encounter Laurie Simmons was invited for his next runway show. As a thank you for attending his show, Thakoon sent her a bouquet of roses. These roses became the starting point for the textile design Laurie Simmons created for Thakoon’s Spring 2009 runway collection.

PS X MAC: COLOR OF SPRING
There’s nothing better than a good collaboration bringing together the best of some of our favorites. We are loving everything about Proenza Schouler and MAC’s new and limited edition beauty-collection. The much anticipated project has been in the works for several years getting the concepts and colors just right. To start with the packaging design alone is gorgeous.
The look was inspired by the rainbow/oil slick color palette of the spring summer 2010 collection playing with references from surf and skate culture. Jack and Lazaro created a collection that builds on the effortlessly cool Proenza Girl they have developed on the runway with Diane Kendal, Taking it to the next level with acid color pops and perfect nudes. PS X KNOLL: INTERIORS
Proenza Schouler’s collaboration with M.A.C cosmetics wasn’t their first venture beyond clothing. Back in 2009 they released a range of textile’s with the high-end furniture designer Knoll. The designers are known for developing unique textiles with innovative techniques and unexpected materials so experimenting with interiors made complete sense. Jack and Lazaro designed 5 different textile patterns based on previous collections such as the spring 2008 and the fall 2007 runway shows. The textiles are classic and sophisticated with dramatic use of color and patterns. To see the full collection and catalogue, click here.
