For our first installment in a two-part series, today we are looking back at some spectacular set designs from past seasons with one consistent element: using light as staging. In the examples below the lighting schemes are more graphic/ structural in their design. Using light for a fashion show is necessary to highlight the clothing as well as to set a certain mood but it has also become an important element when creating the backdrop for the show that will compliment the collection.

Kenneth Cole’s new fall campaign was shot by Gregory Harris, featuring models: Sung Jin Park and Kai Newman. The fall campaign is named ‘Look Good, For Good” wanting to encourage people to take action instead of raising awareness to social problems. For more information on the campaign, click here.

BOOKWALL

This week we are having a closer look at the Dizon Inc. office library. The wall is full of shelves, stacked with books and magazines about art, fashion and design. They are the result of many fieldtrips to museums or design fairs and are a source of inspiration when at work. It is our creative hub during our research and concept development process when producing shows and events. Below you will find some of our favorite books.

backstage look, Flashback, H/MU

Not long ago in 2010, Proenza Schouler started their hair and make-up signature look for the surf/skate SS10 collection. This specific summer collection was the inspiration for their recent collaboration with MAC cosmetics  (see our previous blog post about this collaboration). To date, the hair and makeup is similar to their earlier looks. Note the minimalist themes: natural skin tones, light colored lips, with darker hues around the eyes. Below we present the Proenza Schouler Girl in a timeline beginning with their most recent show going all the way back to that SS10 collection. “Natural beauty” at it’s finest!

DSM13

On Monday morning Dover Street Market re-opened with a ‘new beginning’, after they closed down the store for the weekend to execute a mini-renovation as part of their periodic transformations (every 6 to 12 months). The result is a refreshing interior offering new designers and exclusive collaborations. Among the new designers are Hood by Air and Melitta Baumeister. Some of the new exclusive collaborations available are the R.T. collection for Nike, the Kanye for A.P.C. collection and the sneaker line by Raf Simons for Addidas. With the new interior, designers and exclusive collaboration available, Dover Street Market certainly is worth the ‘Best Conceptual Store’ title awarded by New York Magazine.

THAKOON X TASAKI: PUNK ROCK PEARLS

TN X TASAKI 11

Suddenly pearls seem to be everywhere in fashion (fashionista), but not many people know that Thakoon has been designing incredible pearl jewelry with Tasaki since 2009 when he was appointed creative director.  Thakoon’s pearls are somehow punk rock yet incredibly elegant at the same time. So much so that girls who would never consider a string of pearls are wearing his unique pieces.

His latest collection “Pretty in Pearls”, is inspired by Thakoon’s dog Stevie, a Yorkshire Terrier and Chihuahua mix.
