2004 was a special year for the Belgian designer Dries van Noten, it was the year he designed his 50th women’s collection and launched a book commemorating his career. Barneys, being one of the first stores in New York City to carry his line, decided to throw a party in honor of Mr. van Noten and launch his book in the United States. The event took place at Barneys on November 4th, working closely with Julie Gilhart and Simon Doonan, and produced by Dizon Inc.
As you entered the 4th floor of Barney’s, the room was covered in projections from past runway shows, layering over each other, wrapping the architecture and the racks of clothing. The center piece of the room consisted of a massive waterfall of images, pages from the book hung on strips of grosgrain ribbons, creating what now looks remarkably like a tumblr feed of images of his shows throughout the years. The strips, hung at different lengths, spanned a long narrow table displaying the books. Dries van Noten 01-50: A Golden Anniversary included photos of shows and invitations of every show since 1991, artfully chronicling his singular vision.

Nicholas Ghesquière may be leading the house of Louis Vuitton into the future, but we are thinking back to a time when he took The House of Balenciaga out of Paris to our very own city, still in recovery post 9/11. For fall 2002 and Fall 2003 collections Nicholas Ghesquière (vogue.com) called on Dizon Inc to produce 2 very exclusive shows, 1 in Gagosian for Fall 2002 and 1 at The Dia for Fall 2003.
This very dated video clip features the show from Gagosian and is worth watching for the fashion as well as the baby faced cameos from familiar fashion faces. Front row guests included Sarah Jessica Parker, Tim Blanks and Anna Wintour (note: w/o her signature black shades). Look for Liya Kebede, Karolina Kurkova and Natalia Vodianova (Style.com) and even Erin Wasson, Danielle Z. and Trish Goff at the Dia Show (style.com).
THAKOON X TASAKI: PUNK ROCK PEARLS
Suddenly pearls seem to be everywhere in fashion (fashionista), but not many people know that Thakoon has been designing incredible pearl jewelry with Tasaki since 2009 when he was appointed creative director. Thakoon’s pearls are somehow punk rock yet incredibly elegant at the same time. So much so that girls who would never consider a string of pearls are wearing his unique pieces.
His latest collection “Pretty in Pearls”, is inspired by Thakoon’s dog Stevie, a Yorkshire Terrier and Chihuahua mix.
For more information and images, please visit the Tasaki website.
The “Fantasy, Treasure” collection is available at colette.fr and the Tasaki online shop.
