Not long ago in 2010, Proenza Schouler started their hair and make-up signature look for the surf/skate SS10 collection. This specific summer collection was the inspiration for their recent collaboration with MAC cosmetics  (see our previous blog post about this collaboration). To date, the hair and makeup is similar to their earlier looks. Note the minimalist themes: natural skin tones, light colored lips, with darker hues around the eyes. Below we present the Proenza Schouler Girl in a timeline beginning with their most recent show going all the way back to that SS10 collection. “Natural beauty” at it’s finest!

DRIES5

2004 was a special year for the Belgian designer Dries van Noten, it was the year he designed his 50th women’s collection and launched a book commemorating his career. Barneys, being one of the first stores in New York City to carry his line, decided to throw a party in honor of Mr. van Noten and launch his book in the United States. The event took place at Barneys on November 4th, working closely with Julie Gilhart and Simon Doonan, and produced by Dizon Inc.

As you entered the 4th floor of Barney’s, the room was covered in projections from past runway shows, layering over each other, wrapping the architecture and the racks of clothing. The center piece of the room consisted of a massive waterfall of images, pages from the book hung on strips of grosgrain ribbons, creating what now looks remarkably like a tumblr feed of images of his shows throughout the years. The strips, hung at different lengths, spanned a long narrow table displaying the books. Dries van Noten 01-50: A Golden Anniversary included photos of shows and invitations of every show since 1991, artfully chronicling his singular vision.

For more information about Dries van Noten and his close relationship with Barneys, have a look at this article.

BALENCIAGA

Nicholas Ghesquière may be leading the house of Louis Vuitton into the future, but we are thinking back to a time when he took The House of Balenciaga out of Paris to our very own city, still in recovery post 9/11. For fall 2002  and Fall 2003 collections Nicholas Ghesquière (vogue.com) called on Dizon Inc to produce 2 very exclusive shows, 1 in Gagosian for Fall 2002 and 1 at The Dia for Fall 2003.

This very dated video clip features the show from Gagosian and is worth watching for the fashion as well as the baby faced cameos from familiar fashion faces. Front row guests included Sarah Jessica Parker, Tim Blanks and Anna Wintour (note: w/o her signature black shades). Look for Liya Kebede, Karolina Kurkova and Natalia Vodianova (Style.com) and even Erin Wasson, Danielle Z. and Trish Goff at the Dia Show (style.com).

THAKOON X LAURIE SIMMONS: ROSELAND

TNXLS 8 TNXLS 14

Thakoon Collaborated with Laurie Simmons to create a unique print for his Spring 2009 collection. The project had been in development for a few years before it actually hit the runway. Back in 2006 Thakoon Panichgul was at an auction and fell in love with Laurie Simmons and her work. Following this encounter Laurie Simmons was invited for his next runway show. As a thank you for attending his show, Thakoon sent her a bouquet of roses. These roses became the starting point for the textile design Laurie Simmons created for Thakoon’s Spring 2009 runway collection.

Elegantly set tables, adorned with translucent chairs, stretched the shadowy lengths of The Highline Hotel Ballroom for L’Wren Scott’s Fall 2012 collection. Her collection, Tea Time, fit perfectly with the setting to create the feeling of ‘Downton Abbey’ inspired by early 1900’s England to WWII . Guests enjoyed a lovely lunch against this dramatic backdrop as the models began to stroll down the runway.

Today we are looking back at the Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2008 show, in particular to the runway design. It is a pretty spectacular set, especially because the entire runway is built up on top of two escalators. Tommy Hilfiger chose the Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall because “it feels iconic” as he told style.com, resulting in a spectacular show that with no doubt will stay unique.
